The group of Dr. J. Neugebauer (UPB) has been and is actively involved in several projects related to wide bandgap semiconductors and methods development (e.g. the EC project "IPAM", focused project "group-III-nitrides", Sfb 296 on low dimensional semiconductor structures, research group "Quantum dot lasers", Volkswagen-foundation "exact exchange"). Dr. Neugebauer is actively engaged in the group-III nitride community and was chair and co-chair on international conferences and workshops (e.g. MRS Nitride Symposium 2001, Wide bandgap symposium at the EPS meeting 2002), member of organisation committees (Intern. Workshop on Nitride Semiconductors - IWNS, European GaN workshop - EGW), and editor of two books (MRS Symposia Proceedings, Vol. 693 (2002), Nitride Semiconductors: Handbook on Materials and Devices, eds. P. Ruterana, M. Albrecht, J. Neugebauer (Willey-VCH Verlag GmbH, Berlin, 2003). Based on these duties the team has excellent experience with the organisation and the management of networks. Specifically, the UPB team will contribute to PARSEM as follows:

•  Management/coordination of the modelling activities

•  Organisation of a hands-on workshop on ab initio based multiscale methods (this will be a ~10 day workshop with theoretical talks by leading experts in the morning and hand-on courses on computers in the afternoon)

•  Organisation of one of the network meetings (the team had hosted/organised several workshops in Berlin)

•  Assistance in recruiting young researchers (using the excellent contacts to the modelling and nitride communities)

Disseminating of the scientific results achieved within PARSEM (in form of a book).
