10. Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas

The Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of FORTH and its Microelectronics Research Group (MRG) have extensive experience in the organization and management of European projects. MRG has participated in several European RTD projects, such as the ESPRIT Nos. 1270, 2035, 2289, 3086, 5018, 5031, 9500, 21315, 28998, RACE No. 1027, BRITE/EURAM No. 5416, COPERNCUS CIPA-CT 94-0197, INCO-COPERNICUS 977131 and IST 26464, 31028 and 38982. It has also participated in the HCM Network CHRXCT940428: "Strained Semiconductor Structures and Devices (SQUAD)", 1/1/95-30/6/97. Evenmore, the IESL institute through several other groups has been active in a large number of HCM and Marie Curie projects for training and exchanging of young researchers and dissemination of information. Currently, two Training Sites for short and medium-term fellowships to doctoral students operate at IESL-FORTH under the titles "Atom / Molecule Laser Interaction - Physics and Applications" (ALPHA) and "European Site for Ultrafast Lasers in Novel Materials & Structures" (EULANOMS). In addition, IESL-FORTH, for over a decade, has been operating as a European Research Infrastructure (Ultraviolet Laser Facility, ULF), which is currently supported through the Access to Research Infrastructures Activity of the Human Research Potential Programme of the EC. Through this scheme, user groups from the EU and Associated Member States are fully supported to visit ULF and carry out innovative experiments.

The prime investigator of MRG in the PARSEM project, Prof. Alexander Georgakilas, will contribute in the overall management of the project through his participation in the project's management committee. He will be also responsible for the recruitment of a post doc at MRG and will coordinate the contribution of the other senior staff of MRG in the training and networking activities. Senior researchers of the team could also contribute in various committees of network-organized workshops.
