"Micro & Nano" 2007 Conference

18 - 21 November 2007 Athens, Greece

Micro&Nano2007 is the third of a series of Conferences on Micro- Nanoelectronics, Nanotechnology and MEMs, held at NCSR "Demokritos" in Athens-Greece. This year the Conference will be organized by the Greek National Scientific Society "Micro&Nano".

The Conference aims at gathering together in an interactive forum all scientists and engineers working in the challenging field of Micro- Nanoelectronics, Nanotechnology and MEMs and to stimulate discussions in last achievements and new developments in this rapidly evolving field. One of the key objectives of the Conference is also to promote collaboration and partnership between different academia, research and industry players in the field.

The Conference will combine an extensive scientific programme including oral and poster sessions with exhibition and social events.

The Conference will be held in the Conference Center of NCSR Demokritos in the period 18-21 November 2007.

Autumn School on Materials Science and Electron Microscopy 2007

" Microscopy - advanced tools for tomorrow's materials "

October 8 - 11, 2007 in Berlin, Germany.

The first Autumn School of the International Centre was organized in 1975. The Autumn Schools provided and will provide a platform for bringing together especially younger scientists (PhD students, Post docs) from Middle/ Eastern and Western Europe. Young scientists are therefore encouraged to apply to participate in this school. The participants will have the opportunity to listen to lectures of internationally renowned scientists and to have lively discussions with them. Furthermore, the young scientists are encouraged to present their own work in the form of posters during the school. Extended abstracts will be published on the website of the school.

The school is open for all scientists interested in advanced materials development. Attendees need not necessarily be electron microscopists.

International workshop on "Nitride Based Nanostructures"

February 5 - 7, 2007 in Berlin (Harnack-Haus), Germany.

An international workshop on "Nitride Based Nanostructures" (NBN) will be held in the Harnack-Haus Berlin from February Monday the 5th through Wednesday the 7th.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together internationally leading experts in the field of nitride based nanostructures with young scientists and students working in this field. The workshop will cover aspects of nitride based low dimensional systems such as quantum dots, quantum wells, and nanotubes from the perspective of theory, growth, characterization, and applications.

The objective of the workshop is two-fold: First, to highlight in the field of nanostructures the current status of research and recent findings and second to introduce the young researchers to the state-of-the art theoretical and experimental techniques used. For this purpose, the program includes tutorial like one hour 1ectures by invited speakers and 20 minutes contributed talks by young researchers to discuss their latest results.

The workshop is organized by Liverios Lymperakis and Jorg Neugebauer (Max-Planck-Istitut fur Eisenforschung) within the framework of the EU Marie Curie Research Training Network "PARSEM".

XII International Conference on Intergranular and Interphase Boundaries in Materials (IIB 2007)

10-13 July 2007 Barcelona, Spain

The International Conference on Intergranular and Interphase Boundaries in Materials (iib), which is held every three years, represents a unique international forum bringing together the specialists working in different areas of Interface Science. Researchers that otherwise are mainly focused on their scientific domain have a unique opportunity to exchange their views and ideas with colleagues investigating the different aspects of interfacial behaviour; iib conferences strongly promote an interdisciplinary approach in Interface Science.

iib2007 is focused on the traditional and specific topics such as structural and chemical characterization of interfaces including atomic level modeling, thermodynamic, mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties.

The conference is also open to research on thin layers, metal/metal, metal/oxide or metal/organic layers, which are of major concern in the domains of corrosion, surface protection, biomaterials and microelectronics. A specific session will address solid-liquid and liquid-liquid boundaries, which are crucial, for instance, in the formation of amorphous/crystalline interfaces.

It is in the scope of iib2007 to also cover new and rapidly developing areas, such as nanostructured materials and interfaces between "hard" and "soft" matter, and to make the point on the current knowledge on grain boundary engineering for tailoring desired materials properties.
